Sometimes the skin just needs a little more than the daily skincare routine. Especially after a stressful day, long mask wearing or uncomfortable weather conditions. So if your skin feels rough and tired and it lacks elasticity and radiance – this DIY facial is for you! Best of all, you don't need any professional tools or products for this.
Step 1: Atmosphere
The right atmosphere should not be missing for an authentic spa experience. So arrange your surroundings so that you can relax completely. For example, light your favorite scented candle and turn on a playlist with soothing music. Then slip into your coziest pajamas or put on a bathrobe. Finally, bring the hair out of the face with a headband or towel. Now the treatment can begin!
Step 2: Deep cleansing
Any skin treatment should start with thorough cleansing. That means: double cleansing. First, apply an oil cleanser. If you are currently wearing make-up, it is best to remove it beforehand with make-up remover. First, massage the oil cleanser onto your dry skin. Use your fingertips to do this, apply light pressure and take your time. Wash everything off with lukewarm water. Now you apply a foam cleaner. You also massage this gently into the skin and then wash everything off with lukewarm water.
Step 3: Steam treatment
For this step, you will need a bowl filled with hot water and a large towel. Hold your face about 30cm above the steaming bowl of water, then place the towel over your head. The towel should be big enough to cover your head and the bowl so that the steam doesn't escape in all directions. Spend about 10 minutes in this DIY steam cabin. This will help increase blood flow to your skin, open pores and loosen deep-seated impurities.
Step 4: Exfoliate
After the steam treatment, a gentle exfoliation will help rid your skin of dead skin cells, clogged pores, blackheads and other impurities. Use peeling pads, for example. Alternatively, if you don't have peeling pads on hand, you can soak cotton pads in toner and use them to wipe any impurities from your skin. Toners with clarifying, peeling active ingredients (e.g. AHA / BHA / PHA, salicylic acid) are best suited for this.
Step 5: Soothing spray
Your skin is now done with the "difficult" part of the treatment and from here on it is all about relaxing. First, calm your skin down with a fine facial spray. Apply this generously or several times. The feeling of a cool mist on cleansed skin is just wonderful!
Step 6: Mask
In the last step of your DIY facial, you pamper your skin with a well-deserved sheet mask. Wear the mask and lean back completely for the next 30 minutes. Close your eyes and for a while just forget all about your to-dos, worries…
