5 ways to cleanse your face

For many Koreans, proper cleansing is the base for flawless skin. That’s why they take it very seriously. Today we look at 5 methods of facial cleansing that are inspired by K-Beauty. In the following we ranked those methods according to the effort they need. We’re starting with the easiest and fastest method: the morning cleanse.

The morning cleanse

What you need: Cleansing water, micellar water or a clarifying toner, 1-2 cotton pads

When to use: When you’re not wearing any make-up and just need a quick wipe-down, typically in the morning (hence the name “morning cleanse”)

How to do: Take a cotton pad and apply some cleansing water, micellar water or clarifying toner, then just wipe down your face until you find no residues on the cotton pad.

The glim-cleanse

What you need: GLIMCLEAN Jelly Cleansing Balm

When to use: In the morning and/or evening to remove make-up and cleanse the face

How to do: Warm the balm up by rubbing it in between your palms, massage the balm onto your face in circular motions, then rinse everything off with lukewarm water.

The double cleanse

What you need: Oil cleanser, foam cleanser

When to use: In the evening to remove make-up and cleanse the face

How to do: Massage oil cleanser onto the whole face to melt down make-up, then rinse off with lukewarm water. Massage foam cleanser onto the whole face to remove any remaining make-up and dirt, then rinse off with lukewarm water.

The triple cleanse

What you need: Make-up remover, oil cleanser, foam cleanser, 3 cotton pads

When to use: In the evening to remove (stubborn) make-up and cleanse the face

How to do: Soak cotton pads in make-up remover, place one pad on each eye and closed lips for 30 seconds, then wipe eye and lip make-up off with the pads. Massage oil cleanser onto the whole face to melt down face make-up, then rinse off with lukewarm water. Massage foam cleanser onto the whole face to remove any remaining make-up and dirt, then rinse off with lukewarm water.

The steam cleanse

What you need: Make-up remover, face cream, 3 cotton pads, 2-4 facial wipes, 2-4 paper tissues

When to use: In the evening to remove make-up and cleanse the face, occasional use instead of daily use recommended

How to do: Soak cotton pads in make-up remover, place one pad on each eye and closed lips for 30 seconds, then wipe eye and lip make-up off with the pads. Massage face cream onto the whole face to melt down face make-up, then wipe off with a facial wipe. Repeat if necessary. Soak paper tissue in warm water and place on the face for 30 seconds, then wipe remaining make-up and dirt off with the tissue. Repeat if necessary.

We can’t really say that one of them is better than the other. They each suit different occasions and purposes. The morning cleanse obviously only works in the morning or on days you’re not wearing any make-up. The double cleanse is the most famous one because it’s a K-Beauty holy grail and many Korean celebrities have promoted it as their key to perfect skin. When choosing your method of cleansing, consider your skin’s need, the amount of make-up you usually wear and the products you have at hand. How many of these cleansing methods did you know?
